| Salina Courses 2010
One of the main objectives of AURORA’s stay on Salina for the 2010 season was the organization of a course in new technologies available for undersea exploration. Throughout the winter months AURORA, together with the Superintendence of the Sea, made sure that everything was in place for participants from Sicily, Italy and Lebanon to meet in Salina at the end of July with the course running from the 26th-28th. The local council of Santa Marina, led by mayor Lo Schiavo, played a vital role in making this course happen as it provided some of the core logistics such as course venue and student accommodation.
The main aim of this short course was not to create instant experts in undersea technologies but rather to imbue in them a sense of what is available to modern researchers. A number of talks, practical sessions on the ISIS and a site visit to the wonderful and world famous museum of Lipari made up the core contents of this event.
All participants were presented with a certificate during a gala night held in the main square of Santa Marina. Photographs of this three day event can be seen [here].
