Malta 2007 Season

The Project
The main aims of the project were to carry out a more detailed survey of the seabed in the area covered last year so as to better understand the full extent of this deepwater offshore site.

Project Operations
In order to achieve the abovementioned aims, the Trust deployed again deployed a Kongsberg multibeam system so as to obtain bathymetric data of a area that would consolidate data gathered in 2006. Furthermore
Aurora deployed its Klein 3000 system so as to obtain high resolution sonar images of the seabed.

Finds
The side scan survey revealed an area where numerous cultural artefacts lay spread across the seabed in just over 130 meters of water. Furthermore, an anomaly which may represent the remains of an ancient shipwreck were also noted in an area north of the main deposit.

Future Work
Aurora plan to return to Malta in 2008 with the intention to continue the mapping of small objects that are spread over the seabed in the area as well as to verify the shipwreck-like anomaly.
